Do i need a stamp to mail a check?

i purchased some stuff online and it was payable through check, but im wondering if i need to put stamp on it since its only gonna be inside US.and i live in sacramento and the thing is just in san francisco. im kinda confused, and im only gonna mail it in some mail box that is close to my work.
